Despite previous rumours claiming the
contrary, LG's next flagship, the LG G6 will not house Qualcomm's
Snapdragon 835 processor. As claimed by a report from Forbes,
the main reason behind this is said to be the unavailability of
Snapdragon 835 SoC before April. Qualcomm's latest chipset is out in the
market only in limited numbers because Samsung already has its hands on
most of the chunk. You might be wondering as to why would Qualcomm
prioritise OEMs like Samsung. The answer to this lies in the process of
the development of the chip itself as the South Korean giant has been
helping the Qualcomm build the chip.
This does come as a surprise as soon
after LG release its LG G6, Samsung will be ready with their Galaxy S8
which indeed will come with Snapdragon 835. The Forbes report also
reveals that the company is expected to launch the Galaxy S8 on April
14th, 2017. On the other hand, LG will be out with the G6 in MWC 2017
with the release scheduled for the month of March 2017.
Meanwhile, a recent report from The Verge revealed the official image of the LG G6. Based on all the previous rumours,
the device is expected to come with a 5.7-inch QHD+ display with a
pixel density of 564ppi and an aspect ration of 18:9. The screen is said
to be bezel-less and will fit the screen as big as 5.7-inches inside an
almost same shell as the LG G5 in terms of the dimensions. LG G5, if
you don't know, came with a 5.3-inch display.
The new flagship from LG is also touted to come equipped with Google Assistant, which is exclusively available for Google Pixel and Pixel XL. Other rumours suggest that the company is making the next flagship a lot safer by introducing heat pipes in the G6 to disperse heat away from the processor. As far as other specs are concerned, the smartphone is likely to sport 3.5mm headphone jack and might use USB Type-C for charging and data syncing. LG is also likely to keep the Hi-Fi Quad DAC for high-quality audio output via headsets, however, we might bid adieu to the modular design as LG is planning to bring water resistant certification to the device as well.
